Whilst median house prices across Australia’s capital cities increased by 1.4% in the June quarter according to the REIA, Canberra was the only capital city where house prices fell in the three months from April to June.
Canberra’s median house price is now $494,125. The ABS recorded a 1.3% fall in Canberra house prices in June alone.
Executive director Neil Neil Evans of the HIA said that “house prices in Canberra may now indicate that the right number of houses exist for the population. When supply meets demand sometimes prices will drop”, he said.
In contrast to falling house prices, Unit prices in Canberra were up 2.4% in the quarter showing that professional couples and singles like to live in apartment style complexes.
